Text Box: ELEMENTARY HONORS PROGRAM
Program Overview

This program is an accelerated program designed to complete the archdiocesan curriculum for Grades 1 through 8, and a full year of Algebra 1, by the end of eighth grade.

Initial program piloted by Archdiocese in 1986—1987 school year
Students are identified as potential candidates for Honors Math at the end of Grade 3, and the program is begun in Grade 4
The Archdiocese has specific criteria for admission to the program.
Standardized math test scores of 90 or above
Standardized reading scores of 80 or above
Above average performance on Level Tests
Consistent grades of 90 or above on report card
Cognitive Skills Index of 125 or above
When the Archdiocese approves the list of candidates submitted by the school, parents are notified.
While the program is flexible enough to admit new students periodically, the program may not be begun in sixth, seventh or eighth grades.

The regular math classes follow the archdiocesan curriculum. Some priority topics are :
	7th grade—algebraic expressions and equations,
	ratio/proportion, surface area/volume

8th grade—rational and irrational numbers, algebraic equations and inequalities, probability, linear functions
