WHAT'S NEW?
Wow! You wouldn't believe all of the positive advancements
going on at Nativity School!
Technology

A few years ago, Nativity received a Connelly foundation grant that upgraded our computer lab to a state-of-the-art wireless lab. At that time, a brand new 60" Smartboard was installed with a ceiling mounted projector which enabled our computer classes to participate interactively. We recently upgraded all of the memory in the lab computers so they will work faster. Our printers are networked allowing our students and teachers various access points to printing stations throughout the building.
In the Fall of 2009, we will be adding 16 new wireless mini -Dell Laptops to our school technology department thanks to a recent Connelly foundation grant. Teachers will be able to use the computers with their students right in the classroom. Our teachers have also recently learned how to create podcasts and will be applying this new technology in their future teaching. We also received an Airliner wireless mini-smartboard for the teachers to use in their classroom. This device allows the classroom computer to become a smartboard. With a projector, the teacher and students can work on a wireless device much like the smartboard located in the lab and tech rooms.
Also in the Fall of 2009, we will be introducing
the Senteo interactive response system which is designed to enhance interactive
teaching and learning. With it, the classroom teacher will display or speak
prepared or ad hoc questions, students anonymously key in answers with their
remote, and responses are tallied, then displayed on a projection screen or
interactive whiteboard. Tallying and displaying results occurs immediately.
To assess student understanding, the classroom teacher can use a variety of
question types, including true or false, multiple choice, numeric response and
more-than-one-right-answer. Decimals, fractions and negative numbers can also be
incorporated into questions and answers.
By the Fall of 2009, the technology room will be moving to room 206. It will still be equipped with a smartboard, projector, laptop computer and other aids for the teachers to use with their classes as they choose independent of computer classes. We are planning to mount the smartboard by the Fall of 2009 so that it is more easily accessible to all students.
Room 207 is now our air-conditioned Science classroom. This classroom is equipped with the complete Lab Learner program. Beautiful lab tables and cabinets of equipment and materials bring Science to life with a thorough hands-on curriculum for Pre-K to Grade 8. Our students have really been excited to learn more about the world of Science through this program.
We have a Microsoft Server environment in place with a local company that deals with Catholic Schools supporting us. We still have all the features as before with file/print sharing, e-mail for teachers, and remote access to email from anywhere via the web. We recently added teacher and student shared folders on the server. Teachers can view their students work via the computer and students can share projects and information with each other.
The entire school computer system operates now on Windows XP and Office 2003. Students have access to their files from any of these PCs. The PCs are protected from changes so the children can concentrate on learning.
In addition, a new Internet firewall has been put in place to filter the content of the Internet at the school. This is to protect the children from inappropriate material on the Internet.

We wish to establish a database for our school alumni that will help former students keep in touch with our school and their former classmates. In 2008, we celebrated the 50th Jubilee of our school with several celebrations that were attended by former students and parents alike.
Please help us keep in touch by completing an alumni contact form and sending it to the school office or call us @ 215-675-2820.
